A Romantic and Heart Warming Kansas City Proposal.

When Andrew and his sister Aftin reached out to me inquiring about a surprise proposal, I was struck immediately by their joyous anticipation for this next step in Andrew and Lauren’s relationship! But I never could have guessed how incredible this Kansas City proposal would be until the day arrived.

Every Zoom call the three of us had was filled with giggles and joy.

We went over every detail and ensured that we were all on the same page. They were flying in for the Chiefs game on Christmas Day. They felt like the magic of Union Station was the perfect stage for the proposal. But what would make this Kansas City proposal truly outstanding? Arranging a huge surprise of having her parents fly in to witness the entire thing.

A few weeks leading up to their Kansas City proposal, Lauren wanted to visit her family for the holidays in northern California. There was only one problem. The date she wanted to fly in was the date they were set to be in Kansas City…just days before the big question. Her family did what any family planning a surprise would do – lie! They faked an illness to be sure that she wouldn’t surprise them and hopped on a plane to Kansas City. 

The day came and the scene was set.

The weather was beyond attentive, as it gave us a beautiful 60-degree day in December for this captivating moment. As I waited in hiding below the exceptionally beautiful Liberty Memorial, Andrew and his family arrived. Andrew and Lauren split up, his family saying they would shortly follow. They headed down the artful staircases and went to view the Kansas City skyline alone.

As Andrew tried to stall, Lauren became confused until he pointed out to look at the top of the memorial. There Lauren saw her family waving to them alongside Andrew’s. It all clicked at that moment, as Andrew dropped to one knee and asked for her hand in marriage. 

Lauren’s hands were shaking as she said yes, and went to greet her family as a newly engaged couple.

This Kansas City proposal was beyond romantic, but spending time with these two for their portraits was something I’ll hold close forever.  As we took their engagement photos, we started to dissect all the little details that went on behind the scenes. Lauren’s suspicion about him proposing at the Chiefs game, to finding out her family was never sick in the first place. This brought round after round of laughter, boy, did we ever capture exactly that!

But let’s be honest: how could the images be anything less than enchanting and lively with a pair like this one in front of the lens? A Kansas City proposal in the midst of the holiday season is something they will remember every time they travel back
