When couples begin planning their wedding, they often think the wedding experience is created by beautiful flowers, a stunning venue, or perfectly coordinated details. While those things certainly help set the scene, they aren’t what guests remember years later…they remember how your wedding made them feel.
Michaela and Aaron understood that from the very beginning. Their Kansas City wedding at The Loretto was centered around creating intentional moments for the people they love. From an emotional first look to a reception that kept everyone on the dance floor until the very end, every part of their celebration reflected the same priority: connection.
Some couples fit together, and Michaela and Aaron are one of those pairs.
Ironically, they had already crossed paths once while playing sand volleyball. It wasn’t until another tournament with mutual friends that they officially met. Aaron sent the Facebook friend request, asked Michaela out just a few days later, and before long they were building a relationship rooted in genuine friendship.
That foundation showed up throughout their entire wedding day.
Whether they’re traveling, cooking dinner, visiting museums, or spending weekends on the volleyball court, they enjoy doing life together. They find joy in the everyday moments just as much as the big adventures.
That same ease followed them into every portrait. They laughed constantly, teased one another, and never seemed concerned about creating “perfect” photographs because they were enjoying being together.
Even before guests arrived, Michaela and Aaron had already begun creating the kind of wedding experience they wanted everyone to remember.
Instead of treating the rehearsal dinner as another item on the timeline, they used it as an opportunity to spend time with family before the whirlwind of the wedding day arrived. Conversations lasted a little longer. Hugs weren’t rushed. Everyone had the chance to slow down and enjoy their time together.
That same sense of calm carried into the wedding morning. Friends laughed together while family drifted in and out of the rooms. Everyone knew they were only a few hours away from watching Michaela and Aaron marry their best friend.
When Michaela and Aaron toured The Loretto, they immediately fell in love with the marble staircase. It felt timeless, elegant, and unlike anywhere else they’d visited. It also became the perfect place to share one of the most memorable moments of the day: their first look.
As Aaron turned around and saw Michaela for the first time, they hugged a little longer, laughed through happy tears, and held onto one another for a few uninterrupted minutes.
First looks can be such a special part of the day. They create space to breathe, talk, laugh, and settle into the reality that your wedding day is finally here before the ceremony and celebration begins. (If you’re still deciding whether a first look is right for you, I recently shared a full post comparing a first look and a traditional aisle reveal to help couples choose the option that feels most authentic to them.)
One of the greatest gifts Michaela and Aaron gave themselves was time.
Because every part of the day happened at The Loretto, they never felt like they were racing from one location to the next. Portraits unfolded naturally, conversations lingered, and their wedding party had time to genuinely enjoy being together. Even guests noticed the difference as the celebration flowed effortlessly from one moment to the next.
A thoughtful timeline doesn’t just keep a wedding on schedule – it creates the breathing room that allows couples to actually experience the day they’re planning.

Perhaps the most memorable part of Michaela and Aaron’s wedding wasn’t something I could photograph at all.
It was the way they cared for people.
Throughout the evening, Michaela greeted nearly every guest with genuine excitement. Family members never felt like an obligation squeezed into the timeline. Michaela and Aaron didn’t just invite friends to celebrate – they made them part of every moment.
You can’t purchase that kind of hospitality or pin it to a Pinterest board. It comes from a couple who genuinely values the people around them.
The second half was pure celebration.
From the moment the dance floor opened, it never really emptied. Friends sang every word, family members joined in without hesitation, and laughter echoed throughout the reception all night. Then “Hey Mickey” came on…
Suddenly, the entire room turned toward Michaela, singing directly to her as if they’d all been waiting for that exact moment. It was spontaneous, hilarious, and perfectly captured the joy that had filled the entire day.
As the evening came to a close, their favorite people lined the walkway, cheering them through a tunnel of cold sparks. A perfect ending to the day.
Every wedding leaves behind beautiful photographs, but the very best ones do something more. They transport you back to exactly how the day felt.
Years from now, I doubt Michaela and Aaron will spend much time talking about how perfectly the timeline flowed. They probably won’t remember exactly how the marble staircase looked either. Instead, they’ll remember lingering hugs with family, the quiet moments they shared before the ceremony, friends singing at the top of their lungs on the dance floor, and the feeling of being completely surrounded by the people who love them most.
This celebration reminds us that the most unforgettable wedding experience isn’t created by trying to impress your guests. It’s created by slowing down, staying present, and making space to celebrate the people you love most. What a beautiful way to begin a marriage.
Your wedding day doesn’t have to feel rushed, overly posed, or centered around checking items off a timeline.
If you’re looking for a photography experience that helps you slow down, stay present, and tell your story in a way that feels honest and effortless, I’d love to be part of it. My goal isn’t just to create beautiful photographs—it’s to help you create a wedding experience you’ll remember just as vividly as the images themselves.
